This 2 day Turkmenistan tour Darvaza crater is the ideal short journey for travelers heading between Ashgabat and Uzbekistan. Begin with a city tour of Ashgabat, the white-marble capital, before driving north into the Karakum Desert. Arrive at the fiery Darvaza Gas Crater at sunset, enjoy kebab dinner, and spend the night in traditional yurts under the stars. On day two, continue to Dashoguz and explore the UNESCO-listed ruins of Kunya Urgench before exiting through the Shavat border.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Ashgabat – Darvaza
- * Arrival at Ashgabat International Airport
- * Check-in to hotel (if arriving on Thursday flight)
- * After breakfast: Ashgabat city tour
- * Journey north to Darvaza Gas Crater (271km, 4.5 hours drive)
- * Arrive before sunset to witness the spectacular crater ignition
- * Dinner at nearby yurt camp with local kebabs
- * Evening at the burning crater with guide stories and insights
- * Overnight in traditional yurts or comfortable tents
Day 2: Darvaza – Dashoguz – Kunya Urgench – Shavat Border
- * Breakfast at Darvaza
- * Drive to Dashoguz city (300km, 7 hours) through desert landscapes
- * Visit Kunya Urgench UNESCO World Heritage site (94km, 1.5 hours from Dashoguz)
- * Explore historical ruins and monuments
- * Transfer to Shavat border crossing for your journey to Uzbekistan (near Khiva and Urgench)
