Tour Itinerary
Day 1, Shavat Border – Kunya-Urgench – Darvaza Gas Crater
- Meeting at the border with Uzbekistan (Shavat border crossing).
- Transfer to Kunya-Urgench (about 1.5 hours journey, 94 km). The Shavat border crossing is located between Dashoguz and Khiva, and Kunya-Urgench is near Dashoguz. A visit to Kunya-Urgench is always included if you are in the area.
- Sightseeing of Kunya-Urgench attractions.
- Lunch at a local restaurant or on the way.
- Transfer to the Darvaza Gas Crater. The trip from Dashoguz area to Darvaza is 300 km and takes about 7 hours on a very poor road. Considering the stop at Kunya-Urgench, the total transfer to Darvaza will take about 8.5 hours, including the road section to the Darvaza route.
- Arrival at the Darvaza Gas Crater, also known as the “Gates of Hell“. Free time at the Crater.
- Dinner at the nearby yurt camp. Typically, beef, chicken, or vegetable kebabs are served for dinner.
- You will have more time at the burning crater with a guide who will tell stories related to Darvaza.
- Overnight stay in Darvaza in yurts or tents.
Day 2, Darvaza Gas Crater – Shavat Border
- Breakfast in Darvaza.
- Transfer from Darvaza to the Shavat border. The trip from Darvaza to Dashoguz is 300 km and takes about 7 hours on a very poor road. The Shavat border is located near Dashoguz.
- Lunch in Dashoguz city or on the way. If you stayed overnight in Darvaza and are traveling to Dashoguz the next day to exit to Uzbekistan, you should spend some time in Dashoguz before leaving.
- Arrival at the Shavat border crossing.
- End of tour.
