Introduction
This 2 Day Turkmenistan Tour begins at the Farab border after crossing from Bukhara, Uzbekistan. The journey first takes you to the ancient city of Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage Site once known as the “Pearl of the Silk Road.” Here you will explore the ruins of Erk Kala, the Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum, and the legendary Kyz Kala fortresses. In the evening, continue to Ashgabat and check into a comfortable 4-star hotel. The second day is a full exploration of the marble capital, including the National Museum, Carpet Museum, Independence Monument, Neutrality Arch, the UNESCO-listed Nisa ruins, and the stables of the famous Akhal-Teke horses. This compact but complete tour combines history, culture, and modern Ashgabat life in just two days.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1, Farab – Merv – Ashgabat
- We will meet you at the Farab border crossing (near Turkmenabat) after your arrival from Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
- After completing border formalities, we will begin a scenic drive to the ancient city of Merv (approximately 4.5 hours on mixed roads).
- Upon arrival in Merv, you will explore one of the most important archaeological sites of Central Asia a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Once a flourishing oasis on the Great Silk Road, Merv preserves the ruins of ancient fortresses, mausoleums, and citadels that tell the stories of long-gone empires. Your guide will show you the main highlights, including the Mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar, the Great Kyz Kala, and Erk Kala.
- In the late afternoon, we will continue our journey to Ashgabat via a modern highway (about 4 hours).
- Upon arrival, you will check into the 4 star Bagt Köşgi Hotel.
- Overnight in Ashgabat (Hotel Bagt Köşgi 4*).
Day 2, Ashgabat – City Tour – Departure
- After breakfast at the hotel, we will set out on a full-day city tour of Ashgabat, exploring both its ancient heritage and modern landmarks:
- National Museum of Turkmenistan: Discover the rich history and culture of the Turkmen people from ancient civilizations like Merv and Kunya Urgench to modern Turkmenistan.
- Turkmen Carpet Museum: Admire the craftsmanship and traditions of Turkmen carpets, considered a national treasure.
- Monuments: Visit some of the country’s iconic symbols the Neutrality Arch, the Monument of Independence, and the Ertugrul Gazi Mosque.
- Nisa (UNESCO World Heritage Site): Stroll through the ruins of the first capital of the Parthian Empire and experience the grandeur of ancient Turkmenistan.
- Akhal-Teke Horse Stables: Meet the legendary golden horses, renowned for their beauty and strength.
- Ashgabat Olympic City: Explore this modern sports complex, built for the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, featuring world-class facilities and striking architecture.
- Dinner: Enjoy traditional Turkmen cuisine at a local restaurant.
- Modern Ashgabat (optional): If time permits, take a stroll through Berkarar Shopping and Entertainment Center or Ashgabat Mall, where you will find modern shops, cafés, and leisure areas.
- In the late evening, you will be transferred to Ashgabat International Airport, marking the end of your unforgettable journey through Turkmenistan.
