Introduction
This 3 day Turkmenistan tour is designed for travelers entering from the Farab border near Bukhara and exiting via Shavat near Khiva. Start with ancient Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with mausoleums, castles, and the ruins of Sultan Sanjar. Continue to Ashgabat for a guided city tour of the marble capital before heading into the desert to witness the blazing Darvaza Gas Crater at sunset with a night in yurts. Conclude with Kunya Urgench before leaving Turkmenistan.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Farab Border – Merv – Ashgabat
- * Meet your guide and driver at Farab border crossing
- * Visit the ancient city of Merv (Gyz-Gala, Askhabi mausoleums, Gyaur Kala and Erk Kala castles, Sultan Sanjar mausoleum)
- * Transfer to Ashgabat
- * Overnight in Ashgabat
Day 2: Ashgabat – Darvaza
- * Ashgabat city tour
- * Afternoon departure to Darvaza
- * En route visits to Water Crater, Mud Crater, and a desert village
- * Evening arrival at Darvaza Gas Crater ("Gates of Hell")
- * Dinner at Yurt camp
- * Overnight in Yurts/tents at Darvaza
Day 3: Darvaza – Dashoguz – Kunya Urgench – Shavat Border
- * Drive to Dashoguz
- * Visit Kunya Urgench historical site
- * Exit via Shavat border to Uzbekistan
