This Turkmenistan 3 day tour starts at the Shavat border crossing from Uzbekistan near Khiva. On this compact 3-day itinerary you will visit the legendary Darvaza Gas Crater “Gates of Hell”, explore the white-marble capital Ashgabat, and experience desert and urban contrasts all within just three days.

Tour Itinerary

  • Meet at the border with Uzbekistan near Khiva and Urgench.
  • After lunch in a restaurant at Dashoguz, start the journey to Darvaza (300km, 7 hours drive). The road is being repaired, so it takes time to pass it.
  • Arrival to the Darvaza Gas Crater, also called the “Gates of Hell” and have some free time around the Crater.
  • Dinner at the nearby Yurt camp (400 meters apart). Dinner usually includes kebabs from beef, chicken, or vegetables.
  • More time at the Darvaza Burning crater with the guide, who will share stories related to Darvaza.
  • Overnight at Darvaza in Yurts or tents.

  • After breakfast at Darvaza, drive towards Ashgabat (300km, 5 hours drive). On the way, visit the Water Crater and Mud Crater. Stop by a village in the desert where they keep goats and camels.
  • Lunch at a restaurant in Ashgabat.
  • After lunch, start with sightseeing in Ashgabat city, one of the most unusual cities in the world. The city has a Guinness World Record for being the city with the most white marbled building in the world. All the cars are also white and clean. The buildings are not just white they are quite beautiful as well.
  • In the Evening, board the night train to Dashoguz.

  • Arrive in Dashoguz in the morning.
  • Have breakfast.
  • Shavat border crossing and exit to Uzbekistan.
