This Turkmenistan 5 day tour begins in Ashgabat and leads you through the desert, coast, and canyons of this fascinating country. Witness the fiery Darvaza Gas Crater with an overnight yurt stay, explore Ashgabat’s marble monuments, museums, and ancient Nisa, and travel west toward the Caspian Sea. Along the way, visit Kow Ata underground lake and the traditional mountain village of Nokhur. Discover the dramatic Yangikala canyons before returning to Ashgabat for departure.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Ashgabat Airport – Ashgabat – Darvaza
- International flight arrival to Ashgabat in the night.
- Free time in Ashgabat.
- Drive to Darvaza Gas Crater (271 km, 4.5 hours).
- Dinner at the Yurt camp.
- Overnight at Darvaza in Yurts or tents.
Day 2: Darvaza – Ashgabat
- Breakfast at Darvaza.
- Drive to Ashgabat (300km, 5 hours drive). Visit Water Crater and Mud Crater on the way.
- Lunch at a restaurant in Ashgabat.
- Ashgabat City Tour: Visit National Museum, Museum of Carpets, Monuments, ruins of Nisa and Anau, Akhalteke horse farm, bazaar, shopping center.
- Dinner at a restaurant.
- Overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 3: Ashgabat – Turkmenbashi
- Drive to Turkmenbashi in the morning (430 km to Balkanabat, then 150 km to Turkmenbashi, 5 hours + 1.5 hours). Include a visit to Kow Ata and Nokhur Village.
- Check into hotel in Turkmenbashi.
- Overnight in Turkmenbashi.
Day 4: Turkmenbashi – Yangikala – Ashgabat
- Drive to Yangikala Canyons (142 km, 2 hours).
- Explore Yangikala.
- Drive to Ashgabat via Balkanabat (147 km, 2 hours from Yangikala to Balkanabat, then 430 km, 5 hours from Balkanabat to Ashgabat).
- Overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 5: Departure
- Transfer to Ashgabat International Airport for flight departure in the night.
