This 4 Day Turkmenistan Tour begins at the Shavat border near Khiva and leads to UNESCO-listed Kunya Urgench, with its mausoleums and the legendary Turabek-Khanym complex. Continue into the Karakum desert to witness the blazing Darvaza Gas Crater, dine on kebabs, and spend the night in traditional yurts. In Ashgabat, explore the marble capital with its record-breaking architecture, world’s largest handmade carpet, Berkarar Shopping Center, and lively bazaars. Flexible options allow extra time for museums, Nisa ruins, or tasting Turkmen dishes like plov and (Islekli) before departure.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1, Shavat – Kunya Urgench – Darvaza
- We will meet you at the border with Uzbekistan near Khiva and Urgench at the Shavat crossing point
- After completing border formalities we will transfer to Dashoguz and then proceed for sightseeing of the ancient city of Kunya Urgench a UNESCO World Heritage site with its historical monuments
- Following our visit we will start our journey to Darvaza Gas Crater also known as the “Gates of Hell” (approximately 300km 7 hours drive) We plan our arrival to be just before sunset allowing you to witness the spectacular view as dusk falls
- We will have dinner at the nearby Yurt camp
- You will have time to experience the Darvaza Burning Crater with your guide who will share its fascinating stories
- Overnight at Darvaza in Yurts or tents
Day 2, Darvaza – Ashgabat
- After breakfast at Darvaza we will continue our drive towards Ashgabat the capital city of Turkmenistan (approximately 271km 45 hours drive) On our way we will visit two other craters the Water Crater and the Mud Crater and stop by a desert village where locals raise goats and camels
- Upon arrival in Ashgabat we will have lunch at a restaurant
- After checking into your hotel you will have free time in Ashgabat to relax or explore at your leisure
- In the evening enjoy dinner in a traditional restaurant in Ashgabat
- Overnight in Ashgabat
Day 3, Ashgabat City Tour
- After breakfast at the hotel we will embark on a full day of sightseeing in Ashgabat one of the most unique cities in the world Ashgabat holds a Guinness World
- Record for having the most white marble buildings globally creating a stunning architectural landscape
- Our city tour will cover all the main attractions of Ashgabat including the National Museum Museum of Carpets various grand Monuments the historic Ruins of Nisa (the first capital of the Parthian Empire) and the ruins of Anau We can also include a visit to an Akhal Teke horse farm if you are interested in these magnificent horses and explore a local bazaar or shopping center
- Lunch and dinner will be provided at local restaurants in Ashgabat during your sightseeing
- Overnight in Ashgabat
Day 4, Ashgabat Departure
- Enjoy breakfast at your hotel
- You will have free time in Ashgabat until your transfer to Ashgabat International Airport
- Transfer to Ashgabat International Airport for your international flight departure Please note that international flights from Ashgabat typically depart in the night after midnight
