Introduction
This 2 Day Turkmenistan Tour is one of the most popular short trips, combining the country’s greatest highlights. The journey starts at the Shavat border near Khiva, where you cross into Turkmenistan and head towards Dashoguz. From there, travel across the Karakum Desert to the world-famous Darvaza Gas Crater, also called the “Gates of Hell.” Spend the evening watching the fiery crater at sunset, enjoy a traditional kebab dinner, and overnight in Turkmen yurts under the desert sky. On the second day, continue to Kunya Urgench, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore ancient mausoleums, minarets, and caravanserai ruins before exiting Turkmenistan at the Khojaeli/Nukus border.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1, Khiva/Dashoguz – Darvaza
- • In the morning, we will meet you at the border called “Shavat,” located between Khiva and Dashoguz cities. The recommended time for you to come to the border is 11:00 o’clock.
- • After the border crossing procedure is finished, we will go by car to the City of Dashoguz and have lunch at a local restaurant.
- • 14:00, We will head towards the Gas Crater Darvaza, also called the “Gates of Hell.”
- • 20:00, Reach the Gas Crater and have some time around it before it becomes dark.
- • 21:00, Dinner at the yurt camp with locally prepared kebabs.
- • 22:00, You will have another visit to the Gas Crater to enjoy it in the deep dark. If it is not a full moon and the sky is clear, you can enjoy a beautiful night sky with the Milky Way clearly visible.
- • Overnight at Darvaza in traditional Turkmen Yurts.
Day 2, Darvaza – Kunya Urgench – Khojaeli/Nukus Border
- • 07:00, After breakfast, we will see the Darvaza Gas Crater for the last time.
- • We will then depart from Darvaza for Kunya Urgench. Along the way, if time permits, we will visit the Water Crater and Mud Crater before continuing our journey through the desert towards Kunya Urgench.
- • Late afternoon, we will arrive in Kunya Urgench, an ancient city that served as a major trading center on the Silk Road and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- • Have lunch at a local restaurant in Kunya Urgench.
- • Explore the main historical destinations of Kunya Urgench, including the stunning Kutlug-Timur Minaret, the beautiful Turabek Khanum Mausoleum, and the impressive Portal of the Caravanserai.
- • Late afternoon/early evening, we will transfer to the Khojaeli/Nukus border crossing point with Uzbekistan, where your tour of Turkmenistan concludes.
