Introduction
This 4 day Turkmenistan tour starts at the Shavat border near Khiva and ends at the Farab border near Bukhara. After crossing the migration service and receiving your Turkmenistan visa, you’ll head to the famous Darvaza Gas Crater the “Gates of Hell.” Enjoy sunset views, a barbecue dinner, and an overnight stay in a yurt under desert stars. The next day you’ll travel to Ashgabat, stopping at the Water and Mud Craters and a small desert lake. In Ashgabat, visit key landmarks such as the Ruhnama Monument, Turkmenbashi Mosque, and Independence Square. Day three takes you to Ancient Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before returning to Ashgabat for a night train to Turkmenabat. On the final day, visit the Darvaza Tour office, then continue to the Farab border to exit to Uzbekistan. Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Khiva/Shavat – Dashoguz – Darvaza
- Meet on the Turkmenistan side of the border near Khiva/Urgench
- Drive to Darvaza (travel time may be longer due to road works)
- Arrival at the Darvaza Gas Crater is planned before sunset, so you can enjoy it in daylight, at sunset, and later at night
- Dinner at a nearby camp
- Evening at the crater with your guide
- Overnight in yurt or tent at Darvaza
Day 2: Darvaza – Ashgabat
- Breakfast at Darvaza
- Stops at the Water & Mud Craters en route to Ashgabat
- Lunch in Ashgabat
- Afternoon city tour including UNESCO Nisa
- Overnight at a comfortable hotel in Ashgabat
Day 3: Ashgabat → Merv → return to Ashgabat → Night Train to Turkmenabat
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Drive to Ancient Merv (~400 km, ~4 hrs)
- Lunch in Merv
- Guided visit of UNESCO Ancient Merv
- Return to Ashgabat
- Night train 19:50 → 09:20 to Turkmenabat
Day 4: Turkmenabat – Farab (exit to Uzbekistan)
- Morning arrival in Turkmenabat
- Breakfast
- After breakfast: free time in Turkmenabat or transfer to the Turkmenistan side of the Farab border to exit to Uzbekistan
- Tour ends
