This Turkmenistan 4 day tour starts at the border with Uzbekistan, in the Farab area near Bukhara. You’ll explore the majestic ruins of ancient Merv, one of the most important cities along the Silk Road. Then you’ll head to Ashgabat, the capital known for its white marble buildings and modern architecture. After that, visit the famous Darvaza gas crater, nicknamed “The Gates of Hell,” blazing in the heart of the Karakum desert. Tour Itinerary

  • Morning: Meet at the Farab border crossing point.
  • Travel: Drive to Merv for sightseeing, then continue to Mary (approximately 4.5 hours to Mary from Farab). The road between Mary and Turkmenabat is bad. Merv and Mary are very close to each other (30km away).
  • Afternoon: Merv sightseeing.
  • Overnight: Check in to a hotel in Mary for the night.

  • Morning: Depart from Mary and drive to Ashgabat (388 km, approximately 4 hours). The road is very good and is a paid highway.
  • Afternoon: Ashgabat city tour. Visit key destinations including the National Museum, Museum of Carpets, and various monuments. See the Ruins of Nisa and Anau, and the Akhalteke horse farm.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Ashgabat.

  • Morning: Free time in Ashgabat.
  • Afternoon: Drive to Darvaza (271 km, approximately 4.5 hours). The road is bad.
  • Evening: Arrive at Darvaza Gas Crater.
  • Overnight: Overnight at Darvaza in Yurts or tents.

  • Morning: Drive to Dashoguz (300 km, approximately 7 hours). The road is very, very bad.
  • Afternoon: Spend some time in Dashoguz. Continue to the Shavat border crossing.
  • Evening: Exit Turkmenistan through the Shavat border crossing.
