6 Japan Group Turkmenistan Tour Darvaza Gas Crater
This photo was taken in Dashoguz at Kunya-Urgench, the ancient city where the Khiva rulers once lived. This place is connected to Kutlug Timur and Turabek-Khanum. These small ancient objects were found by hand and placed here so nobody touches them until archaeologists come to study them. A tourist took this photo, and in the background four people are working on preserving the site and protecting the old walls.

This photo was taken in a supermarket in Ashgabat. They built tall pyramid-shaped displays made only from cookies, with many types of wafers and sweets stacked like stairs. The cookie pyramid in the middle does not move at all and looks perfect. I think this cookie is called Hazar, because I remember eating it when I was a child and it was very tasty.

This photo was taken at the Darvaza Gas Crater Yurt Camp. The table was prepared for about eight people, but the shashlik and salads had not arrived yet. Only fruits and drinks were placed on the table for now. Later the shashlik, salads, and cakes for each person would arrive, because after dinner everyone wants to eat something sweet.

This photo shows the breakfast prepared in Darvaza for the group. It includes a sausage, two eggs, cheese, olives, yogurt, tandyr bread, fruit, tea, coffee, and other things tourists want. Some tourists are vegetarian, so they eat very little at breakfast.
This photo shows a Japanese tourist trying to hold the flames of the Darvaza gas crater with her fingers for a picture. Her face is not visible because she asked not to show it, and only her hand is in the photo. It is a real photo for tourists who want to travel with us.
This photo was taken at the Darvaza gas crater. All tourists who come from Ashgabat buy beer for the evening, and we prepare the soft drinks. The most popular beer in Turkmenistan is Berk, because the company sells it in glass bottles with a beautiful design, so many tourists choose it. The company invests in good packaging, and their business is growing because even tourists buy their beer.
This photo shows the night sky in Darvaza. Many tourists ask how the stars look at night, and I wanted to show that near the gas crater and the yurts everything is dark, and in the Karakum desert the stars are incredibly clear and beautiful. In the city there is no such atmosphere, but in Darvaza you want to lie down, look at the stars, and dream.
This photo was taken in Darvaza. After photographing the night sky, I also took a picture with a Turkmen yurt so tourists can see that this is really Turkmenistan. The yurt is lit a little, so some stars are not visible because of the light reflection. This is a traditional Turkmen yurt near Darvaza, about 4 meters wide, with a chimney on top that is used in December with a diesel heater that has no smell and is very economical.
This photo was taken on the road from the Darvaza gas crater back to Ashgabat, where we saw two camels walking along the damaged Dashoguz–Ashgabat asphalt. The road is not being repaired because in 2026 they plan to build a new highway. The road is very bad, and I do not recommend driving here with a normal city car. Only strong cars like Toyota Prado or Land Cruiser can handle it. If someone comes with a Ford or another city-type car, they may break the suspension, and without spare parts in Turkmenistan, they might even have to leave the car behind.
