Tour Overview
The 2-Day Turkmenistan Tour from Bukhara is designed for travelers entering Turkmenistan from Uzbekistan through the Farap border. Meet your guide and driver on the Turkmenistan side, continue to Turkmenabat and explore UNESCO-listed Ancient Merv together with the traditional Turkmen Ojagy experience.
Turn a stay in Bukhara into a two-day exploration of eastern Turkmenistan, combining city life, Silk Road archaeology and traditional Turkmen culture in one practical round-trip itinerary. Enter Turkmenistan through the Farap border and begin with an introduction to Turkmenabat, one of the country's major eastern cities and an important centre of the Lebap region. Explore traces of the ancient settlement of Amul, visit the regional museum and experience the atmosphere of a local bazaar before continuing west toward Mary.
After an overnight stay in Mary, devote the second day to Ancient Merv, one of the most important archaeological landscapes in Central Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover monumental Seljuk architecture, fortified settlements and the remains of a city that once stood at the heart of major Silk Road routes. The historical programme is complemented by a visit to Turkmen Ojagy, where traditional dress, Turkmen Alabay dogs, camels and bread-making offer a more personal introduction to modern Turkmen heritage. The tour then returns east toward the Farap border, allowing travellers based in Bukhara to experience two contrasting regions of Turkmenistan without changing their wider Uzbekistan itinerary.
