3 Day Turkmenistan Tour from Ashgabat is a compact private journey designed for travelers who want to experience Ashgabat, the Darvaza Gas Crater and an authentic overnight train journey before continuing overland to Bukhara, Uzbekistan. The tour begins in Ashgabat with city sightseeing before heading north across the Karakum Desert to the famous Darvaza Gas Crater. Arrive in time to experience the crater around sunset, enjoy dinner near the desert camp and spend the night in a traditional yurt near the flames. On the second day, return toward Ashgabat with possible stops at the Water Crater and Mud Crater before continuing your exploration of the capital. In the evening, board the overnight train from Ashgabat to Turkmenabat and travel across Turkmenistan alongside local passengers, one of the most interesting ways to experience everyday life in the country. After arriving in Turkmenabat on the third day, enjoy breakfast and a short city visit before transferring to the Farab border for your onward journey toward Bukhara. With one night at Darvaza and one night aboard the train, this itinerary is also a practical option for travelers who want to see several major highlights of Turkmenistan without requiring hotel accommodation during the route.

3 Day Turkmenistan Tour from Ashgabat Itinerary:

Day 1: Ashgabat Arrival – City Highlights – Darvaza Gas Crater
  • Airport Meeting: Meet your private guide and driver at Ashgabat International Airport after arrival. The exact meeting time will be arranged according to your confirmed flight schedule.
  • Breakfast & Refreshment Stop: Depending on your arrival time, stop at a local café or restaurant for breakfast, tea or coffee before beginning the sightseeing program.
  • Ashgabat Introduction: Begin with a short orientation tour of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan’s distinctive white-marble capital. Depending on available time, the program can include major monuments, panoramic city viewpoints and several of the capital’s most recognizable landmarks.
  • Seasonal Events: If your travel date coincides with a local festival or public celebration, such as the Melon Festival, the itinerary can be adjusted to include the event and give you the opportunity to experience local traditions and seasonal foods.
  • Lunch in Ashgabat: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before leaving the capital.
  • Drive to Darvaza: Depart Ashgabat and travel north through the Karakum Desert toward the Darvaza Gas Crater, approximately 270-300 km from the capital. The journey normally takes around 3.5-4.5 hours depending on road and local conditions.
  • Arrival at Darvaza: Reach the desert camp in the late afternoon or early evening and settle into your yurt accommodation.
  • Darvaza Gas Crater at Sunset: Visit the famous burning crater, widely known as the “Gates of Hell.” The atmosphere becomes especially impressive after sunset as the flames illuminate the crater and surrounding desert.
  • Desert Dinner: Return to the nearby camp for dinner, typically prepared and served in the traditional desert setting.
  • Evening at the Crater: After dark, there is additional time to return to the crater, take photographs and enjoy the desert atmosphere with your guide.
  • Overnight: Private or shared traditional yurt near the Darvaza Gas Crater, depending on the selected accommodation category.
Day 2: Darvaza Gas Crater – Ashgabat – Night Train to Turkmenabat
  • Breakfast at Darvaza: Begin the morning with breakfast at the desert camp and enjoy the quieter morning atmosphere around Darvaza.
  • Morning Desert Views: Before departure, there will be time for a final look at the crater and surrounding Karakum Desert landscape.
  • Water & Mud Craters: On the journey back toward Ashgabat, stop at the Water Crater and Mud Crater if road conditions and timing allow. These lesser-known sites provide additional insight into the unusual geological features found in the Darvaza area.
  • Return to Ashgabat: Continue south through the Karakum Desert and arrive back in the capital around midday or early afternoon.
  • Lunch in Ashgabat: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant serving Turkmen or Central Asian cuisine.
  • Ashgabat City Tour: Spend the afternoon exploring more of the capital. Depending on your interests and available time, the program may include major monuments, white-marble architecture, parks, mosques, local markets or other city landmarks.
  • Free Time & Preparation for Train: Before departure, there will be time to buy snacks, drinks or other items for the overnight railway journey.
  • Transfer to Railway Station: Your guide and driver will take you directly to Ashgabat Railway Station and assist you before boarding.
  • Overnight Train to Turkmenabat: Board the night train from Ashgabat to Turkmenabat. We arrange a sleeper berth whenever available so you can rest during the journey across the country.
  • Local Travel Experience: Traveling by train offers a different side of Turkmenistan from a private vehicle. You will share the journey with local passengers and experience one of the country’s traditional long-distance forms of transportation.
  • Overnight: On board the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat night train.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I joined Darvaza Tour at May 2026, for 3D2N with the main destination : Darvaza and Ashgabat city.
Everything was handled carefully by the team, from the visa application, Dashoguz border pickup, meals, transportation, and anything else we needed. Just let the guide know what you need and they will do their best to make it happen.
Turkmenistan is a truly unique country unlike any other, even when compared with the other Central Asian "-stan" countries. It offers an experience that is completely one of a kind.
Thank you Darvaza Tour and our guide Mekan, you made this trip even more enjoyable and memorable.

Greetings from Indonesia

Why Choose This 3 Day Turkmenistan Tour from Ashgabat?

This 3 Day Turkmenistan Tour from Ashgabat is a practical choice for travelers who want to combine the capital, the Darvaza Gas Crater and an overland exit toward Bukhara within a short itinerary. Instead of returning to Ashgabat for another hotel night, the route uses the overnight train to Turkmenabat, allowing you to travel east while you sleep and experience a form of transportation commonly used by local passengers. This makes the itinerary both efficient and more culturally interesting. The tour also includes one of Turkmenistan’s most memorable experiences, an evening and overnight stay near the Darvaza Gas Crater, together with sightseeing in Ashgabat and a direct connection toward the Farab border. Private transportation, an English speaking guide, visa support, border assistance and carefully coordinated transfers are arranged throughout the route, while the itinerary remains flexible enough to adapt to flight arrival times, train schedules and local conditions.
